Purpose of Blogging
August 2, 2005 on 12:19 pm | In 31 Days to a Better Blog, Blogging |Venturus posts about how Perseverence is Key When Blogging. He states that,
Many have jumped on the bandwagon, only to stop updating their blog a short while later. Others have fallen into a groove, and have picked up readership…
I believe that to persevere with blogging that it is necessary to have a Purpose to Blog.
Therefore, I am going to take a quick look at my Purpost of Blogging.
First of all, Why am I Blogging? There are several reasons that spring to mind:
- I want to use my Dominic Foster blog as a sort of journaling exercise, so that in the years to come I can look back on what I’ve achieved/done/not achieved/failed.
- To set goals. This is something I’ve been mentioning in my last few posts. I firmly believe that by blogging about something I want to do, then I am committing myself to following through with it.
- To help others. I’d like to think that what I’m posting might help some people.
- My Nicolas Darvas website idea was formed as a way to write down what I thought about trading. Also, to be used as a trading diary.
- Also, I’d like to form a community for people who are interested in the methods that Nicolas Darvas applied to his trading.
- My Blogging might hopefully provide a stream of income in the form of AdSense and affiliate links.
- And lets not forget that it is fun!
Now what is the purpose of my 31 Days to a Better Blog project. Again several reasons spring to mind:
- To kick start my Blogging. I only set up my sites at the beginning of July 2005. I desperately neaded something to really get me focused and to start the actual process of Blogging. Therefore I am setting myself a goal.
- As a way of collating the information I am finding around the net on the topic of Blogging. At the end of the 31 days, I plan to write and article summarising my experiences using this information.
- By doing this I am super fast tracking myself to learning some new skills. I work as a software developer, but do not have much experience with stuff like Web Hosting, PHP, Internet Security, etc…
- I also would like to gain from generating traffic to my websites.
- To have some fun!
So there we have it. In a nutshell, all of the above is my fundamental Purpose of Blogging.

Hello Dom,
I found your website very inspirational. I have just started putting content on my website: http://www.corlinnz.co.nz and I totally agree with you that is is all about being consistent in putting content on your site.
My Purposes of blogging are:
* to learn more about the technical side of websites
* to have prospects come to my website and thus create new business
* to inspire and help businesses build online brands
* and last but not least: experiment what works and have fun doing it!
Keep up the good work!
Cornelis
