Day 1 - Roundup

So this is the end of the first day of my 31 Days to Building a Better Blog. It has been interesting. It all started reading my rss reader first thing this morning and seeing a post from Darren Rowse.

I remember back in April 2000, sitting in my flat in London watching a bunch of ordinary looking people running across Tower Bridge on TV. I had a flash of uncontrolled inspiration and proclaimed loudly - “I shall run the London Marathon next year”. Sure enough I told all my friends and everyone at work thus committing myself to run the London Marathon in 2001. And sure enough, I did (just about) run the London Marathon in 2001. I’ve even got a medal and runners number to prove it if you don’t believe me! And I’m convinced my right ankle has been buggered ever since.

So this morning, when I saw the post at ProBlogger, I was to, again, proclaim loudly - “I shall make my blog better in August 2005″, and promptly posted the first comment for Darrens first post of the day - committing myself to the task in hand. Luckily, Auckland is 3 hours ahead of Melbourne, so by the time Darren had munched through his breakfast and set himself up for his day of blogging, I was sitting poised with my lunch in hand (cheese and salami toasted sandwich), waiting to strike.

I think that what I’m trying to say is that sometimes you need to commit yourself to some crazy goal without giving it too much thought else it slips through your fingers of opportunity.

Anyways, today I have made a start. I have placed the comment on ProBlogger, and also another on webkew under a blog on building forums (as I plan to blog about this later in the month). This will also hopefully gain some readership of my blog so I don’t feel like I’m blogging to no-one but the google-bot.

What else? I’m going to email all my friends and relatives from my spiffy new “dominic at dominicfoster dot com” email address and ask them to spread the word. And start filling my notebook with all the ideas that are spinning around in my head for this project. I plan to write something about my purpose for blogging.

And finally, I noticed that the master is watching now so there’s no slacking off!
