Meme

What the hell is a Meme?… I would think when I was first introduced to the books of Seth Godin.

After reading his books, and subsequently his blog (every day), I’m still not sure I know. But when I read Declaring War on Blogger Apathy V at ProBlogger on Friday, I kind of understood it a little more. Maybe because I am now starting to pay a little more attention to this kind of thing.

Darren Rowse suggests that you Meme it up - to inject some more ideas into your blog if it is starting to get a little stale.

After a quick jump to Wikipedia, I find out that it’s definition is quite mind boggling - at least for me to try an quantify here in a few words.

Oh.. OK.. I’ll have a go. Well it appears that there is no hard and fast definition. But in a nutshell, a Meme can be described as any piece of information transferable from one mind to another.

But is that enough? To me that suggests that just telling someone the time is a Meme.

I think I’ll just go with Seths description of infectious branding - that seems a bit easier for me - maybe because a lot of what Seth writes about is to do with internet branding strategies and that I’m a geek - and that’s where our paths cross.

Anyhow, I thought this was going to be a straightforward quickie of a Blog Post - but I appear to have found myself trying to write something profound. So I’ll get back to the reason I’m posting about the Meme - And back to Darrens post on Friday.

As I said at the begining of this post, Darren Rowse suggested that you Meme it up to add some spark to your blog. On reading this It dawned on me what my definition of a Meme would be. I could use it as a category of ideas - such as “Wordpress Hacking Week” or “Seven Posts to Understand Your Web Stats”.

Anyway, I’ve now been busy Blog Stubbing a whole load of ideas for future posts. And who knows - there may be a series called “Five Profound Definitive Definitions of Meme”.

Now where’s my copy of Unleashing the Ideavirus gone?
